A WAV file is mostly raw sound, but it is a RIFF container that can carry extra chunks: INFO tags for the title, artist, comment and software, and, from field recorders and studio software, a Broadcast Wave (bext) chunk and an iXML chunk with the scene, take, date, time, originator and sometimes timecode and notes. A WAV metadata remover keeps the sound and writes only the format and data chunks. Drop a .wav file in the box above to see what it holds.
What a WAV file remembers
| Where | What is stored | Example |
|---|---|---|
| RIFF INFO | Title, artist, comment, software, creation date | ISFT = Audacity 3.4 |
| bext (Broadcast Wave) | Description, originator, date, time, loudness | Originator “ZOOM F6” |
| iXML | Project, scene, take, tape, notes and user fields | SCENE=12, NOTE=“actor late” |
| Cue and list chunks | Markers and labels | Marker named “mistake here” |
Where the details come from
- Audio editors write the software name.
- Field recorders write BWF and iXML records.
- DAWs export markers and project names.
What the remover deletes, and what it keeps
| Removed | Kept |
|---|---|
| RIFF INFO tags | The PCM sound data, sample for sample |
| Broadcast Wave and iXML chunks | Sample rate, bit depth and channels |
| Cue points and labels | Length |
| Software tags |
How to remove metadata from a WAV file
- Drop your WAV files in the box at the top of the page, or choose them from your device. You can add many files at once.
- Press the clean button. Each file shows what was found and removed.
- Read the report. Anything that could still identify someone is listed as remaining, so nothing is hidden from you.
- Download the clean copy. It is deleted from our server within minutes.
Is it safe to clean a WAV file online?
WAV files are cleaned on our server, because the work needs a dedicated media tool. The file is held only while it is cleaned and for a few minutes after, so that you can download it, then it is deleted. It is never listed, indexed or shared, and the download link is a secret that only you receive.
Frequently asked questions
Are the samples changed?
No. The sound data is copied sample for sample.
Will a DAW still import the file?
Yes. A WAV file needs only its format and data chunks.
Does it remove timecode?
Yes, because timecode is stored in the Broadcast Wave chunk, which is removed.
Can I clean WAV files with the API?
Yes. Send the file to POST /api/v1/clean/audio with your API key and its name in the X-Filename header. It returns the clean file and reports what was removed in the response headers. The MCP server does the same for AI assistants.
How many files can I clean?
Guests and free accounts have a daily allowance and a file-size limit, shown above the drop box. Paid plans raise both. Documents, images, PDFs and audio share one daily allowance.
